WHY WE SHOULD KEEP THE UNITY OF THE SPIRIT
By SOUGHTOUT EMEKA MATTHEW
One thing Christians and members of a team or organizations should pursue is to endeavour to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
The apostle Paul enjoined Ephesians Christians saying:
“Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:3
What does that mean? There is this peace that ties us together as Christians and made us to be united in Christ. It is through this bonding-peace from Jesus Christ that made us have peace with God (“For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace” Ephesians 2:14-15, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” Romans 5:1) and with one another through being spiritual minded (“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:6) and believing in Christ (“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” Romans 15:13) that we should maintain the unity that the Spirit of God gives us.
THREE REASONS WHY CHRISTIANS SHOULD MAINTAIN THE UNITY OF THE SPIRIT AMONG THEMSELVES
The reasons are sum up in this phrase, “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling” Ephesians 4:4
We should understand that:
- WE DON’T HAVE TWO NATIONS OR ORGANIZATION WHERE WE BELONG.
We have just ONE organization, Team, family, Nation, or Union. So, we should keep it as it is, ONE. We shouldn’t break it up. When kingdom rises against itself, it will likely fall.
The apostle Paul reminded us that:
“There is one body…”
2. WE DON’T HAVE TWO SPIRITS; BUT ONE.
Our God that brought us salvation and established the church for which we are all part of, though they are three persons; but they are all ONE SPIRIT, see Matthew 28:19:
“So wherever you go, make disciples of all nations: Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
The first man and woman from whence comes all human through marriage, though they were two; but in marriage they are ONE, see Genesis 2:24:
“That is why a man will leave his father and mother and will be united with his wife, and they will become one flesh.”
Our fathers that brought us the gospel and the independent we are enjoying today as a nation, though they are many; but they are ONE IN SPIRIT to be able to get us this great blessings, see Acts 1:14:
“These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.”
“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart” Acts 2:1, 46.
3. WE DON’T HAVE TWO HOPES OR EXPECTATIONS.
We have one hope for which we are called into, whether it be in a family, Church, nation or team, etc. we just have one expectation for which we become part of an employment, family, team and a nation.
We should pursue such hope or expectation so we could realize it. We should live for it and up to it.
“There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling” Ephesians 4:4
Corporate bodies and also Churches understood the essence of having one spirit, that’s why they set up different classes or courses to create orientations that will turn people from other churches/ministries or companies to drop the spirit for which they came with and take up theirs.
