 TRUSTING IN THE LORD

 By SOUGHTOUT E. MATTHEW

INTRODUCTION:

And the Bible says,

“He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him. For he clave to the LORD, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses. And the LORD was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not. 8 He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.” 2 Kings 18:5-8

The scriptures above are testifying about the power of trusting in the Lord.

Hezekiah was one of the kings of Israel that trusted in the Lord. It was recorded that he chose to trust in the Lord rather than in the gods some of his predecessors trusted and served.

He started showing his trust in God by destroying images of idols and satanic objects of worship established in the land of Judah by his predecessors.

It was recorded concerning him that when he trusted in the Lord God of his ancestors and:

  1. HE BECAME A CANDIDATE OF DISTINCTION.

Hezekiah stood out among the kings that has been and the ones yet to be.

“He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him”.

Trusting in the Lord will make you one of its kind. With trusting in the Lord you become one in town. And the most striking part of it is that before and after you, there is none elsewhere who is like you.

Trusting in the Lord will make you to stand out. Daniel and his friends stood out in Babylon because they trusted in the Lord. This led them to refuse the kings food and chose only vegetables and water. They also gained international recognition and stood by refusing to bow down to the King’s idol. They became reference point and choice of kings for proffering solutions through referral.

Do you want to stand among your pairs? Then, you have to chose to trust in the Lord.

  1. HE BECAME UNITED WITH GOD AND COMMITTED TO OBEYING HIM.

“For he clave to the LORD, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.”

A hymn writer revealed that the secret of being happy in Jesus us to trust and obey. Trust goes before obedience. In fact, they go hand in hand. They are inseparable from each other. This because; it takes trust to obey and also, it takes obedience to trust.

Trust makes obeying God easy for us.

Do you want live the life of obedience to God, then trust Him.

  1. HE NEVER LACKED GOD’S PRESENCE AND SUPPORT.

“And the LORD was with him…”

Whoever trusts God will never lack His presence. It takes God’s presence to become a person of difference. If God is for you, nothing can be against you. If God is by your side, you shall not be moved.

It was recorded of Joseph that God was with him and he prospered in his master’s house, in prison and even in the land of Egypt. All these became his experience because; he trusted in the Lord.

  1. HE BECAME SUCCESSFUL AND PROSPEROUS.

“…and he prospered whithersoever he went forth…”

There is no place you cannot prosper if you put your trust in the Lord.

In a strange land, Abraham became rich in all things. In a strange land, Isaac became prosperous, waxed great and the citizens of land envied him. In a strange land, Jacob became prosperous and had a large household. In a strange land, Joseph became a prime minister. In a strange land, Ruth got remarried to Boaz after losing her husband to the cold hands of death. In a strange land, Esther became a queen. In a strange land, Daniel and his friends stood out. They also became part of the ruling class. And the list continues. All these prospered wherever they go because; they trusted in the Lord.

  1. HE WAS FORBIDDEN TO SERVE HIS ENEMIES OR BE SUBJECTED UNTO THEIR AUTHORITY.

“…and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.”

We are created to be free and live freely and not to be slaves.

Trusting in the Lord provokes liberty. It breaks the chain of bondage and enrol you into the life of freedom.

Trusting in the Lord is one of the secrets of freedom. Trust anything rather than God, you won’t enjoy the freedom God designed for you. Trust in the Lord, you will resist anything that wants to subject you to bondage.

  1. HE BECAME VICTORIOUS OVER HIS ENEMIES AND BATTLES IF LIFE.

“He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.”

Trusting in the Lord will enroll you in the school of victory where you will never know any defeat in life.

David fought many battles and lost none all because; he put his trust in the Lord. He never suffers shame because; He trusted in the Lord. He brought down terrifying giant because; He trusted in the Lord. He never suffers intimidation because; he trusted in the Lord. He put the armies of his enemies to flight and advanced his kingdom by taking more territories.

Would you like to be a perpetual conqueror? Then, keep trusting in the Lord.
