It is possible to lack and never know that.
In the encounter that the rich young ruler had with Jesus where he asked of what to do in order to inherit the kingdom of heaven, i strongly believe that he so full of himself that as far as he is concerning that in keeping the Torah, he don’t think there is anything he lacked in his life that could deprive him from inheriting the kingdom of heaven.
When Jesus asked him to obey the Torah, he replied that all these he had kept from his youth and perhaps in pride, he asked Jesus, i lacked nothing that could stop me from inheriting the kingdom of heaven, or what do you think? Is there anything i lacked?
Jesus looked straight into his heart and saw one thing that he lacked and said to him, Sell all that you have and give it to the poor. then shall you have treasure in heaven and begin to follow me.
What was the response of this rich young ruler? The Bible revealed that he went away in anger. What a tragedy!
GOD KNOWS WHAT YOU LACK
Friend, it may seems to you that you lacked nothing as far as going to heaven is concerning; but it is crucial to go to Jesus in prayer and ask him, What lack I yet? Until you ask, you may not know. Until you ask, it may not be told you.
In Matthew 19:20, The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
Don”t let what you have cover your eyes that you will not know what you lack that could hinder you from inheriting the kingdom of heaven.
So, don’t feel like you have arrived. The apostle Paul said that he kept every thing he had achieved behind and never seen himself as he had arrived; but he pressed forward to mark the prize of our high calling in Christ.
Finally, I enjoin you not to behave like this rich young ruler that walked away after Jesus told him what he lacked. Don’t fall victim of pride and affluence or whatever.
Naaman got angry when he was told to dip himself in Jordan river seven time to become clean of his leprosy. He almost missed his healing. When he had a change of mind, he returned and dipped himself into Jordan seven times according to the instruction of the Prophet Elisha, his leprosy was cleansed.
The rich young ruler thought with the wealth of his obedience in keeping commandments in the Torah and his riches alone would earn him the kingdom of heaven; but little did he know that they couldn’t and instead to complying with the instructions of the Messiah, he got angry and missed the kingdom.
So, recognize your lack and work against it.
