HOW TO GET THE THINGS YOU WANT FROM GOD

HOW TO GET THE THINGS YOU WANT FROM GOD

By

Soughtout E. Matthew

INTRODUCTION TEXT:

“So trust in the LORD and do good. Live on your land and be dependable.  Enjoy serving the LORD, and he will give you whatever you ask for.” Psalm 37:3-4 (ERV)

God is the father of believer in Christ Jesus. As a father, one of His roles is to meet the needs of His children and He has all things in Christ Jesus to get our needs, the needs of His children met.

The apostle Paul in Philippians 4:19 (ERV) said, “My God will use his glorious riches to give you everything you need. He will do this through Christ Jesus.”

WHAT TO DO TO GET THE THINGS YOU WANT FROM GOD

Having seen God has all it takes to meet our needs, it is important to know what to do for Him to get what we needs met. These have I gleaned from our introduction text to share with you in this article. And they are:

  1. PRAYER:

Prayer is not just about communicating with God; but it is asking what you want from Him.

Whatever you cannot get by yourself, you can get from God and the best way to do that is through prayer: Asking from God.

Jesus taught: “Ask and it shall be given to you….” Matthew 7:7. So, God can never give you what you didn’t ask for. He can never force things on you. He gives to us what we want and this is because He respects our choice. Our choice is traceable to what we ask for or from God.

Verse 3 of our introduction text says, “…and he will give you whatever you ask for.”

Would you want to get what you want from God? Then, ask Him for it and He will give it to you.

Jesus taught in Matthew 7:11 saying, “You people are so bad, but you still know how to give good things to your children. So surely your heavenly Father will give good things to those who ask him.”

  1. TRUST:

Every child trusts that their father can meet their need or whatever he or she asks from him. In the same way, God expects us to trust in Him so we can get whatever we ask for from Him.

Psalm 37:3-4 says, “So trust in the LORD … and he will give you whatever you ask for.”

Man can fail; but God cannot fail and that is why we should trust Him and that everything we ask of Him, He is able to give or do.

In Romans 4:21 it is written that:  “Abraham felt sure that God was able to do what he promised.”

That’s what trusting in the Lord is: feeling sure that He is able to do or give not only what He has promised; but what we ask of Him.

  1. DO GOOD:

How do you feel when one of your child does what pleases you? Trust you’ll do anything within your reach to make such child happy. What if such child doesn’t do things that please you and come asking for something from you, will you give that? No, you won’t!

The same goes between us and God. When we do what that pleases Him, He happily blesses us. He goes ahead to give us what we want or ask of Him.

Trusting in the Lord is not enough in getting what we ask of Him. We need to add doing good to it.

Psalm 37:3-4 says, “So trust in the LORD and do good.…and he will give you whatever you ask for.”

  1. BE DEPENDABLE:

To live a dependable life means to live a faithful life. It means to live a trustworthy life.

Can men trust you? Can things be entrusted to your care and it is safe? Can God trust with money, etc and you use it to His glory? If you are such a trustworthy person, there is nothing you ask of God that He will not give to you.

Psalm 37:3-4 says, “…Live on your land and be dependable…and he will give you whatever you ask for.”

  1. DELIGHT IN THE LORD:

To delight in the Lord means to take pleasure in the Lord. It is also to enjoy serving Him.

One thing is to serve the Lord; but another thing is to be happy serving Him. Those who enjoy serving the Lord are those who are happy with the Lord.

When our children are happy having us as their parents, they enjoy serving us or doing things we ask them to do. And with such relationship condition, there is nothing they cannot get from us their parents.

In the same way, if we maintain the relationship condition of being happy with God, we can happily do everything He ask us do, no matter how hard it may be to us.

In Psalm 37:4, the Psalmist enjoined us saying, “Enjoy serving the LORD, and he will give you whatever you ask for.”

Would you like to have what you ask for given to you by God? Then, take delight in serving Him.
